BC Culture Days is now accepting applications to the 2025 Ambassador Program. Emerging artists of all disciplines (from visual and media artists to dancers, musicians, poets, writers, actors, and more) are invited to apply to the 2025 program. This annual professional development program is for emerging artists in B.C. who desire an equitable opportunity to advance their artistic career by developing event planning, facilitation, and community engagement skills, participating in a mentorship, and growing their professional network. It is a predominantly self-directed program with *support from BC Culture Days staff and requires both in-person (in your local area) and online participation through the months of May to October 2025.
*BC Culture Days Support
Ambassadors are required to work independently and collaboratively with community partners as well as BC Culture Days staff. Strong communication and time management skills are important. While the program is predominantly self-directed, BC Culture Days offers the following support:
Free marketing and media relations services, including social media posts and print posters
Access to a large arts and culture network and contacts for event facilitation
Assistance with mentorship matching
Assistance in building relationships with community partners and securing in-kind support in the way of venue space and materials
Consultation for event planning
Accessibility support throughout the program as well as for Culture Days events (e.g. ASL Interpretation, wheelchair access, etc.)
Monthly check-ins via Zoom, acting as an opportunity for the ambassador cohort to connect with each other and BC Culture Days staff
Professional development workshops in Trauma-informed Art Practices, Event Planning and Accessibility, and Indigenous Relations and Allyship
Media training in preparation for spokesperson role
Access to a list of mental health resources and related research through partnership with the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture
Engagement of mental health professionals to provide active listening support to participants at the ambassadors’ CARE Series events
Six emerging artists will be selected as 2025 Ambassadors. Each artist will develop, coordinate, and present a free community-based arts event in their local area, featured as part of the BC Culture Days CARE (Community Arts Reimagining Equity & Wellness) Series for Culture Days. These events will explore how creativity contributes to individual and community wellbeing with a focus on equitable access to arts and culture programming. The proposed event must be low-barrier in nature and encourage public participation in a creative process. All events in the series will be free for the public to attend, with the option to accept Pay-What-You-May donations in support of local mental health or equity-based charities.
As part of the Ambassador Program, the six emerging artists from across the province will:
1. Receive an event budget and artist fee totalling $2,000 to present their community-engaged event during Culture Days (between September 19 - October 12, 2025).
2. Participate in a paid 3-month mentorship ($1,500 total for approx. 8 hrs/month) with an established artist of their choice.
3. Participate in professional development workshops in Trauma-informed Art Practices, Event Planning and Accessibility, and Indigenous Relations and Allyship.
4. Receive media training and act as a Culture Days media spokesperson for their community from August-October.
Through the CARE Series, BC Culture Days hopes to foster peer-supported environments through creative events that will offer equitable access to arts-based activities and safe spaces where participants are supported in their journey towards improved mental health, especially in cases where cultural barriers may create a sense of isolation or inhibit participants from addressing mental health challenges. At each CARE Series event, a mental health professional will be available onsite, as a resource for the ambassador presenting the event and as an active listener for participants when needed.
Given the importance of regional representation for this program, priority will be given to applicants from outside Metro Vancouver or from rural and remote communities. Artists who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), Black, a Person of Colour, disabled, Deaf, hard of hearing, chronically ill, mad, trauma-impacted, neurodivergent, gender diverse, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ are strongly encouraged to apply. Please note, this is not an exhaustive list of racialized, disability, and equity-deserving identities.

Ambassador Testimonials
“I would absolutely encourage artists to apply for the Ambassador Program as I believe it’s an amazing opportunity for growth as a creative, not only with the training you receive and the platform you’re given (with a lot of freedom) to come up with a community project that speaks to your values, but also the incredible relationships you get to build along the way with fellow artists who offer different perspectives and visions. This program has pushed me outside of my comfort zone in many ways, and, through it all, has offered me endless support which made this process enjoyable, inspiring, and brought a lot of excitement for me as to what’s possible in the future.” — Annabelle Bail (2024 Ambassador in Nanaimo)
“It is so great that there is a program like this that supports emerging artists with their creative ideas, which is an opportunity that doesn’t regularly come up. Without programs like the Ambassador Program, how are we (emerging artists) supposed to grow and become more established? After this program, I already feel more confident in my ability to pitch collaborations and advocate for my work and worth as an artist.” — Harmeet Kaur Virdee (2024 Ambassador in Surrey)
“The program is a great opportunity to connect with the wider community and other artists. The monetary support of the Ambassador Program is helpful to free up space to work on the ambassador project and other role responsibilities as well as develop new artistic skills. The mentorship component is invaluable for growth, and the ability to recommend an ideal mentor to BC Culture Days really allowed me to make a pointed choice about where I’d like to expand my artistic practice.” — Alex Chen (2022 Ambassador in Victoria)
