About
See Alisha Lucia Davidson's traffic signal box wrap "The Olive Pickers" on display outside of Trafalgar Park Community Centre.
Alisha offers the following description of her work:
"This piece is meant to celebrate that sense of community among neighbours, while also
celebrating the agricultural workers in and around Oakville. I chose for the harvesters to
be in an olive grove as it pays homage to my own Italian ancestors and my own
personal ties to the Oakville region. But I also wanted the image to be fluid and
relatable. The colours I chose are meant to be be ambiguous, in the sense that these
women could be from many different backgrounds, and their harvest could be many
different fruits. It may invoke a different meaning to each Oakville residents. With
Southwestern Ontario being such a lush area for agriculture this piece shows
appreciation to the farmers and agricultural workers who live or come to the area for
harvest season. I chose to use different shades of green in the background to not only
create that feeling of lushness but also to invoke a sense of abundance and prosperity
that comes with the harvest."
