Along Kerr Street between Washington Street and Normandy Place

338 Kerr Street

Oakville, ON

Situated in the vibrant Kerr Village Growth Area and Business Improvement Area (BIA), the Kerr Street area is a quaint and eclectic retail district featuring a unique mix of specialty shops, convenient services, and diverse dining options within a mixed-use residential zone. Kerr Street offers a varied selection of businesses and eateries, catering to a broad range of tastes and budgets. There are two featured public spaces along Kerr, Heritage Square and Normandy Parkette. Heritage Square is a bustling, public space frequently animated by local businesses and residents from nearby apartments and neighborhoods. Centrally located along Kerr Street, Normandy Parkette offers a green retreat with mature trees, pathways, and benches. It serves as a popular local gathering spot at the corner of Normandy Place and Kerr Street.

The “We Are Kerr” project received support through the My Main Street Community Activator program.

My Main Street is funded by a Government of Canada investment through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) to foster the stabilization and revitalization of main streets across southern Ontario.

The My Main Street Community Activator will provide support across southern Ontario for local community placemaking projects, including festivals and events, community enhancements, and streetscape improvements designed to draw visitors and increase local vibrancy.

Placemaking is an approach that asks people to collectively reimagine and reshape public space to maximize its shared value. Placemaking can take the form of events that draw people into a community, murals that brighten neglected streetscapes and celebrate local artists, seating and temporary patios that allow people to gather safely outdoors, new uses for neglected or empty spaces, and more.
