Far and wide across the province, the 2023 BC Culture Days ambassadors are participating in mentorships, developing their artistic practices, and planning public activities for Culture Days with the theme of AIR (access, inclusion, and resilience) in mind. The 2023 A/I/R Ambassador Series features low-barrier arts and culture events, created under the creed that creativity, artistic exploration, and collaborative artmaking are for everyone. During Culture Days, our ambassadors will present inclusive and accessible free-to-attend events for their local communities including Salt Spring Island, Victoria, Vancouver, Trail, Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George, and Quesnel. Through their events they will create safe, community-focused spaces for all to enjoy, in both urban centres and rural regions across B.C. In doing so, these artists will support greater participation from Deaf and disabled, neurodivergent, IBPOC, 2SLGBTQQIA+ and other underrepresented communities gathering together to connect, share, learn, and explore through arts and culture. The series’ range of activities include a shadow puppet language workshop, a collaborative yarn mural, a social justice banner-making afternoon, a Two-spirit-led drumming session, and much more. The A/I/R Ambassador Series stands to showcase diversity and inclusion, encouraging accessibility and community care as habitual priorities for arts and culture practitioners, while inspiring liberating, creative experiences for all arts and culture lovers and goers alike.
