UBC ARTIVISM: The Politics of the Body

Exploring the politics of the body through art, with an emphasis

on the liberation and diverse experience of marginalized bodies

UBC ARTIVISM is an arts festival that highlights stories of student resilience and activist art practices which challenge dominant narratives. The theme for 2022, “The Politics of the Body”, was devised by UBC student and festival Artistic Director Helena Miranda. She asks; “What does it mean to be a body in this time and space?”

This 5th annual student led festival focuses this year on the liberation and diverse expressions of the marginalized body - both politically and artistically.

Through live music, dance, art exhibits, talks, poetry, immersive art and more ARTIVISM: The Politics of the Body invites attendees to decolonize the body and establish a deeper connection to themselves.

In each year’s programming underrepresented voices are amplified and brings centre stage the experiences offered by LGBTQ2SAI+, IBPOC individuals as well as those living with disabilities.

This 5th annual event is held as part of BC/Canada Culture Days and is produced by the Arts & Culture District in partnership with their student club UBC exposure led by Vanessa Matsubara, our festival Executive Producer.
