À propos
We are excited to present a captivating performance of Bharatanatyam, one of the oldest and most revered classical dance forms originating from Tamil Nadu, India. This dance form is a beautiful blend of intricate footwork, expressive hand gestures (mudras), evocative facial expressions, and rhythmic body movements, often used to narrate stories from Hindu mythology.
A Bharatanatyam performance is a vibrant visual and auditory experience, featuring a dancer adorned in traditional attire and elaborate jewelry. The dancer moves gracefully to the accompaniment of classical Carnatic music, following a highly structured sequence that blends artistry with spirituality. Rooted in devotion, this dance offers a mesmerizing connection between performer and audience.
Bharatanatyam has its origins in the temples of Tamil Nadu, where it was initially performed by temple dancers as an act of worship. Over centuries, it evolved from its religious roots into a celebrated performing art, now shared on stages around the world. This dance form continues to be a rich symbol of India's cultural heritage, combining tradition, beauty, and spiritual depth.

Welcome to the enchanting world of Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form that originated in the ancient temples of Southern India. At Abhinaya School of Dance, we are passionate about preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Bharatanatyam and strictly follow the Guru-Shishya traditions, while nurturing and empowering young dancers to express themselves through this timeless art. Our school was founded with a vision to provide a nurturing and creative environment where students can delve into the beauty of Bharatanatyam, both as a sacred art form and a captivating means of storytelling.
Sushmitha Parthasarathy is a highly trained and experienced instructor who is passionate about Bharatanatyam and dedicated to guiding students at every step of their journey. Her journey through dance started in the year 1986. While her initial training started under Vidvan K. Kannan, she further trained under the tutelage of Dr. K. Kumar ( Prof. at Music and Dance College, Mysore University, Mysore India). Later she learnt under Smt. Nandini.
Here at Abhinaya School of dance, we welcome students of all ages and backgrounds, from beginners to advanced levels. Our carefully structured curriculum covers the fundamental elements of Bharatanatyam, including adavus (basic steps), hastas (hand gestures), abhinaya (expressions), rhythmic patterns (tala), repertoire (items), and theoretical knowledge of the art form and intricate dance compositions from various traditional repertoire. Our students not only gain mastery over the dance form but also develop a deeper appreciation for Indian mythology, history, and culture. Through their journey in our school, they experience personal growth, discipline, and self-confidence as they build a strong foundation in dance and performance skills.
We believe in the power of dance to transcend boundaries and connect people from different walks of life. As such, we regularly organize performances, workshops, and cultural events to showcase the talents of our students and foster a sense of community among our dancers and their families.
Whether you are aspiring to become a professional dancer or simply seeking a way to express yourself through the mesmerizing art of Bharatanatyam, Abhinaya School Of Dance is the perfect place to embark on this extraordinary journey. Join us as we dance to the rhythm of tradition and innovation, preserving the essence of Bharatanatyam while embracing the ever-evolving spirit of this captivating dance form.
