  • Three people dance in a circle, their hair and clothing in motion. One dancer, centered and facing the camera, wears a vibrant green dragon mask and a purple dress. The other two dancers, one in a teal shirt and one in a light blue sweater, are partially visible from behind, their arms extended outward. The background is a dark curtain, contrasting with the bright light coming from a window on the left.

À propos

Move and Be Moved is a guided movement and storytelling workshop that invites participants of all ages and abilities to explore creative expression through music, character, and embodied narrative.

At the heart of the experience is Dreams Are Calling—an original song by HALF/ASIAN with Amy the CODA, featured in the upcoming theatre production Hallowed Be Thy, co-created by Miwa Hiroe, Amy Braun and Ian Griffiths.

The workshop begins with a gentle group warm-up that includes flocking games, imaginative movement prompts, and yoga-inspired dance. Participants will also have the option to wear creative masks, which encourage freedom of expression, character exploration, and the opportunity to move without self-consciousness.

Participants will learn the ASL signs for the chorus of Dreams Are Calling, led by Amy the CODA. This offers a powerful, and visual way for all participants to connect with the music and meaning of the piece. Signing as a group creates a moving moment of unity and shared expression.

Participants will be guided through a narrative set to the instrumental version of the song, using movement to explore the emotional journey of the story. Rather than aiming for synchronized choreography, the workshop invites each person to interpret and embody the story in their own style.

For the final run-through of the piece, Dreams Are Calling will be performed live by HALF/ASIAN with Amy the CODA, bringing the story and movement to life in an immersive way.

To close the workshop, participants will be invited into a free-flowing, non-guided dance session accompanied by live music from the Hallowed Be Thy production, performed by HALF/ASIAN with Amy the CODA. This final section offers time to move freely, integrate the experience, and celebrate together in a joyful, open-ended atmosphere.

No dance or performance experience is necessary—just a willingness to move, connect, and be present in a shared creative space.

Amy Braun - BC Culture Days Ambassador

This event is organized by Amy Braun, also known as Amy the CODA — a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and performer based in Valemount, BC. As a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA), Amy’s creative work blends movement, music, and visual storytelling, often centering themes of communication, connection, and identity.

Move and Be Moved is inspired by Hallowed Be Thy, a community-based theatre production currently in development in Valemount. Created in collaboration with playwright Miwa Hiroe and musical duo HALF/ASIAN with Amy the CODA, the production integrates original music, choreography, and masked performance to explore themes of dreams, self, and perception.

This participatory workshop is both an extension of and an invitation into that creative process — offering community members an opportunity to engage with the artistic elements of the show, while also exploring dance and movement as tools for expression and well-being.
