À propos

The Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum invites you to dive into "The Story of McArthur Island," a captivating exhibition exploring the unique island right in the heart of Carleton Place. Shrouded by the Mississippi River, this pocket of land has borne witness to centuries of change. Visitors will journey through a deeply layered timeline, from the island's origins as a home to Anishinaabe camps to its evolution into a powerhouse of early Canadian industry and further still to its current status as the Tri Century Mill Hotel.

Follow the thread of local heritage from the great Bates and Innes woolen mills to the retro era of Blue Bell jeans. You'll discover the island's rare Hackberry Trees and their cultural significance, and even uncover one of Carleton Place's most eccentric chapters: The "Penguin", a rare 1960s amphibious vehicle. This exhibit serves as an ideal gateway into the storied, ever-evolving histories of the Ottawa Valley.
