À propos
Welcome to the city of Kitchener City Hall galleries. Join us for the viewing of two exhibitions of photo-based works. Rotunda Gallery presents works by Indigenous artist Katherine Takpannie and Berlin Tower Artspace works by photographer Carol Spooner in the Berlin Tower Artspace Gallery. The evening will include an artist talk and an opportunity for conversation with the artists.
Katherine is a self-taught photographer, who honours her Inuit worldview through her lens. She chose photography to reclaim her identity and to explore her experiences as an urban Inuk. Katherine’s artistic visual language expands out from portraiture to include lush landscapes, and political activism. Her work has been recognized both nationally and internationally and has been published in several magazines.
Carol presents an artistic photography project that celebrates the beauty, complexity, and cultural expression within the Black community of Waterloo Region. Through a series of fine art portraits, this project explores how our physical features carry the stories of ancestry, migration, and identity recognizing that what often distinguishes us also unites us through shared heritage and creative self-expression. Each image will be accompanied by a personal reflection from the participant.
