À propos

Vancouver-based artist Cindy Mochizuki presents a multimedia installation with hand-drawn animation, sound and live-action video, to create a theatrical setting for four fictional stories to unfold. In "Cave to Dream" stories are told by human and non-human characters that move through various dreamscapes and psychic spaces within the metaphor of the cave.

This installation is based on Mochizuki's 2017 research in Akita-ken, Japan where she examined the traditional folklore and ritual practices of the region, in particular the annual performances of the Namahage demon on December 31. "Cave to Dream" brings together fiction, experimental cinema, ritual, magic and live-performance storytelling to offer new ways of understanding old traditions.
