About
The Capture Oakville is the club's annual photography competition which is open to OCC members and the broader community in Ontario. This flagship event was first hosted as a Print Exhibition in 2007.
OCC is unique as it is the only formal club in Oakville promoting the photographic arts within our community. Photography today is more popular than ever, and more accessible to everyone. From film to an Android phone to an iPhone to a point-and-shoot, to a full DSLR, OCC welcomes everyone with any type of camera. OCC provides a forum for amateur and enthusiast photographers to develop their artistic skills and creativity and a means to measure their skills and progress through competitions.
This competition is open to everyone in the community, and the Gala Awards held in spring is an event that draws a huge crowd from the arts community including politicians and other community leaders.
The Photography Competition features up to six-(6) categories, each with specific subject matter and criteria to challenge and inspire the artistic and technical capabilities of the photographers entering the competition.
Capture Oakville is a major juried photo competition using judges qualified under the Canadian Association of Photographic Arts (CAPA).
Founded in 2006 by Kieley Hickey and Bill Smith, the Oakville Camera Club (OCC) filled a gap in the local arts community where photographers of all ages and skill levels could share their passion.
Their vision is to contribute to our community’s quality of life by enhancing the enjoyment, appreciation and public profile of the photographic arts. The club grew from 24 members in the first year to 120 members today.
With a diverse membership, the OCC welcomes beginning photographers through to advanced shooters in a friendly environment with workshops, outings, internal club competitions and social events.
