About

Office of Surrealist Investigations is a collaborative studio and social space. Drop-in and engage with ongoing creative projects. The collaborative work is based on models such as the Surrealist game of the exquisite corpse. This ongoing practice has manifested as a project called A Narrative Corpse, which involves passing on a series of panels with drawings, paintings, and texts that attempt to continue an open and ongoing collaborative narrative or plot.

The underpinning of this project is rooted in an interest in the role of the artist as curator, social art practices, multi-authorship and the collaborative nature of Surrealist practices. There has been a strong movement towards repositioning these traditional roles in current theoretical discourses to include a merger of relational, multi-disciplinary and collaborative artistic/curatorial practices.

Initially Office of Surrealist Investigations began as a blogspot. In 2015, it manifested as an exhibition at Arnica artist run centre in Kamloops and occupied a storefront space on Victoria Street from June 2016 to February 2019 in part due to a BC Arts Council artist project grant, received in 2016. In 2017, Instant Coffee artist collective invited me to set up a temporary satellite office at Second Beach in Vancouver as part of the Artist in Residency program offered by the City of Vancouver in the care taker buildings at parks throughout Vancouver.
