About

To welcome our new community members from Ukraine, we have planned a two part celebration on Sunday, September 25th. We will begin at 11 am with a hands-on workshop where participants will learn to make Traditional Floral Ukrainian Headdresses known as Vinoks. You will learn the historical significance of these beautiful floral head pieces as you work to create your unique version of a Vinok. All materials will be provided & volunteers will be located at various stations within the auditorium to guide you through each phase of creating your very own colourful Vinok.

The workshop will end at 2 pm but all participants are invited and encouraged to stay and wear their new Ukrainian Headdresses while enjoying the dance performance by the Vesna Dancers, a Traditional Ukrainian Dance Troupe that will take the stage at 3 pm. A traditional Ukrainian Dance Performance is a feast for the senses with Energetic Music, Vibrant Costumes, and Dances that tell powerful stories. Our new community members that have recently relocated from Ukraine will be our guests of honour and we hope that our Oceanside Family will come out to welcome them with open hearts.

From 11:30 am until 2:30 pm, Sandy’s Ukrainian Kitchen will be serving hot Perogies for lunch and from 11:00 am until 2:45 pm Sandy and her Team will be offering frozen Take Out orders of traditional Ukrainian foods that can be prepared at home, including Perogies, Cabbage Rolls & Borcht Soup. To pre-order frozen items please call Sandy’s Ukrainian Kitchen at 250-758-6677, or, (250) 729-6995. All pre-orders can be picked up at the venue between 11am and 2:45 pm. Delicious.

The Oceanside Community Culture Days Group consists of the City of Parksville, The McMillan Arts Centre also known as, the M.A.C. and the Oceanside Community Arts Council. The M.A.C. is the jewel in the Oceanside Community Arts Council’s crown. It embodies everything that a true community arts centre should be. Year round the M.A.C. is the bustling centre for all things Arts & Culture in our Oceanside community as well as a destination “must visit” for thousands of tourists that flock to Parksville in the warm Summer season. There are 3 Galleries located inside the M.A.C. along with a Digital Gallery and a fabulous Gift Shop that is filled with unique works by local Artists & Artisans. There are Exhibitions in the Galleries throughout the year, an ongoing series of Arts & Craft Classes, Poetry Readings, Music Classes, Dance Groups, Chorale Groups, and more. It’s all happening at the M.A.C. Activities for everyone from children to our seniors are plentiful and diverse.
