About
The artist offers about his practice and exhibition:
I am a self-taught amateur painter. I started painting late in life having had no background in drawing, colour or paint. I am learning. I don't think of myself an artist, I am trying to present nature as I see it through the medium of oil paint. My intention is depiction, not expression. However, as hard as I try to be passive in the act of painting, it is impossible to avoid overlaying personal experience and therefore expression. Likewise, seeing the world through the lens of how it might be painted has changed my perception. So in the same way I cannot separate myself from the work, I cannot separate myself from the process either. Does that make it art? For now I am happy to try and paint beautiful flowers while I find out.
