About

The Exquisite Corpse Painting Project has been the highlight of our Culture Days for the past two years and it’s back by popular demand for 2023. The Artistic Team is comprised of 45 Artists, seventeen returning from last year and twenty eight new members, curated by Lead Artist & Project Manager, Pattiann Withapea. Beginning in early September, the 45 member team will begin to paint 15 canvases over a period of three weeks in this collaborative project. Artists paint a 12” x 12” segment of a 36” x 12” canvas in succession while only seeing a one inch strip of the painting above them. The canvases are covered and the final paintings will be revealed at our Unveiling Gala Evening where the Artists and the Public will see the artworks for the first time together and the participants will find out who they collaborated with. The reveal is exciting and full of visual surprises.

Guests can expect a wonderful celebration of Visual Art, Culinary Art, Music, Dance, Fashion and an Exquisite Corpse Cocktail created by the Resort. The dress code for the event is to dress in anything that you define as “Exquisite”. This could be anything from a vintage treasure from your personal closet, a handmade garment or accessories, a costume, ethnic clothing, fancy footwear, crazy hats or headgear…it’s all exquisite. The fashions make the evening truly unique and the personal expressions make for great collective energy.

After the collection of paintings have been revealed, awards will be presented and Artists will be introduced to their collaborators. There will be a professional videographer and photographer on-site to capture the special moments. There will be a fast paced “live auction” of the 3 awarded paintings and a silent auction of the additional 12 paintings.

The venue, the Tidal Room at the Bayside Resort in Parksville, has plenty of parking, accessible washroom facilities, and is wheelchair friendly.

The Evening Gala is open to the Public but space is limited due to fire regulations. Tickets to the Gala are given to each participating Artist and their guest first, and the remaining tickets will be offered to the Public beginning September 4th on a first come first served basis until capacity has been reached. The paintings will be displayed from October 1st through October 16th for all to enjoy.
