So you think you'd like to try your hand at writing! Fantastic! Come and join us for this opportunity to chat with local authors, find out what genres they write and learn about writing for yourself. We will be at this free event on Saturday October 5, held at the Quesnel Public Library from 10:00 until 3:00. Local writers will be hosting mini sessions on topics such as How to Start Writing, Self- Publishing – Yes You Can, Journalistic Writing, SongWriting and Poetry. Plan to attend a session or two and have an informal conversation with a local writer. Have questions about writing? That's great! This is a perfect time to have that one on one conversation with a local writer about your writing questions or experiences.

Local writers will have books on display so come and check out what they have. Talk with writers about their work, the challenges they have faced and the rewards of writing. This is a chance to check out books by local authors, pick up a writers' passport and when completed, select a book prize donated by Quesnel LIteracy. SInger/songwriter Shannon Matter will perform some of her original music accompanied by The Electric Comets, in a half hour performance from 12:00 to 12:30 .

This is also an opportunity to recognize the late Bernice Heinzelman, who generously gave of her time and energy in support of writing and writers in this community.

Kathryn Fowkes is the contact person for a group of local writers.

This a small group of local writers in Quesnel who are all interested in supporting individuals who would like to get started writing, or who have written something and don't know where to go from here. It is a group of like minded individuals who are passionate about writing as a means of personal and creative expression. A number of the writers attend markets throughout the year in Quesnel and various other communities, attend writing conferences and workshops within BC, and are members of the BC Federation of Writers. The main goal of this group is to support writers, however possible. This may be in the form of a small writing community, meetings over coffee to discuss aspects of writing, or in the case of the Writers Day event, to host a day every year where the general public can stop by and have an informal conversation with a writer about some aspect of writing, and/or attend a small informal session on a specific writing topic. Our main goal is to reach out to aspiring writers and encourage individuals with a dream of writing to get the support and encouragement they need to give it a try.
