About Larry Tillyer

Larry Tillyer was born in Victoria, B.C. and moved with his family to Vancouver when he was a small boy. Larry is a self taught artist who began his odyssey of painting in 1987.

Larry started painting after a successful career in music playing with the likes of Bill Haley & The Comets, Ivory Joe Hunter, Earl Bostic, Tommy Chong of Cheah & Chong and Gene Vincent. After music, painting took over and has been his prime interest.

His interest as an artist has always been colour and light. Impressionism is his favourite style of painting and he likes especially the way the Impressionist’s handled colour and understood and painted the light. Monet , Renoir and Henri Matisse have had an influence on his art.

Larry paints mainly in acrylics and he regularly does life drawing and plein air painting.

Larry is a Signature Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and an active member of Richmond Artist’s Guild and Men in Hats. Larry’s paintings have won many awards and they can be found in collections throughout Canada, Europe and the U.S.
