Communal Storytelling via Shadow Puppet/Object Play!
Join Ann K Chou, a BC Culture Days Ambassador Program alumni, for a hands-on creative experience where you can make shadow puppets and play with light.
Workshop Highlights:
Making Time: Get ready to experiment and create your own shadow object setups! Participants can use various materials such as wired sculptures (from thrift stores or self-made), beads, fabrics, vases, branches with leaves or flowers, and craft puppet characters using thick paper, transparencies, or tissue paper. You can also create light-reflective setups, like mirroring disco balls, to enhance the visual experience.
Shadow Time: Engage in shadow casting with LED lights or traditional flash light, either solo or collaboratively.
🎭 All ages welcome! Children under 13 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
You are welcome to bring objects that you want to experiment shadow casting.
Let’s come together to share stories, foster creativity, and celebrate the richness of our diverse cultures. We can’t wait to see you there!

Ann K Chou - 2023 BC Culture Day Ambassador
Ann K Chou (周冠雯), a Hong Kong-born visual artist, specializes in lanterns and wearable puppets, embodying her intersectional identity as a hard-of-hearing, first-generation immigrant, and an individual on the Autism Spectrum. Engaged in daily Chinese calligraphy meditation, she integrates sustainability through reusing materials, with a history of weather-adaptive installations. Lanterns symbolize support, sharing, and family bonding. Embracing rebirth through deconstruction, her art promotes accessibility, nurturing connections, a playful spirit and commitment to community engagement.
