The Spirit of the South Seas: mission is to entertain you in their “laid back” tradition while promoting cultural awareness for all people.

In addition, through their “Hula For Health” the group promotes fitness through their Hula Exercise programs.

Their many performances include PNE, Kitsilano Showboat, Folkfest at Centennial Theatre, Kay Meek Theatre and Presentation House on the North Shore; QE Theatre Vancouver; and Shadbolt Center for the Fine Arts in Burnaby. They have been honored to perform for Air Tahiti Nui 2005, major multi-cultural celebrations, such as Iranian New Year, Korean New year, Caribbean Days Festival, Serbian Festival, Italian Festivals …. Grey-Cup half-time show, Pope’s 1984 visit, Lotto Canada, telethons, ’76 Olympics, opening of the Vancouver Art Gallery, 1977 Premiers’ Conference, Prince Phillip & Prince Andrew’s visit in 1978, Expo ’86, hospitals, seniors’ residences. From 1994 to 2006, the halau held a huge outdoor Luau, in a secluded treed setting, a sumptuous buffet including Kalua pig, laulau’s, lomi lomi -plus…, amidst blazing tiki torches, under the stars, with floating candles …... This successful event, which entailed thousands of hours of their time and resources, was an annual fundraiser for local Children’s charities, such as GF Strong, Youth Brain & Spinal Chord Injury Program, Children’s Hospital, and Kids’ Help Line.

”Hang Loose” & travel with them as they Journey through Polynesia..from the graceful hulas, and the ancient traditional kahiko chants where dancers perform to rhythm percussion “implements” and ukuleles…to the wonderful music and dance of the Cook Islands ..to the pulsating drums of Tahiti..to…the whirling Poi Balls of the New Zealand Maori.

The dancers range in age from keiki (children) to tutu’s (seniors) who share a love of life and of family. Imagine yourself basking under azure skies in the South Seas and join them. E komo mai…Welcome! Please join them!

The Spirit of the South Seas Polynesian Dancers - Hula Halau Na Keiki 'O Ohana Lokahi

The Spirit of the South Seas Polynesian Dancers - Hula Halau Na Keiki 'O Ohana Lokahi has been an active fixture on the North Shore and throughout the lower mainland for 50 years. The vision has been to promote cultural awareness through entertainment, and who doesn't love the ukuleles, the drums and grass skirts of Hawaii, Tahiti and other islands of the South Seas. They have performed across Canada and volunteered thousands of hours to various charities throughout the years. Some of their activities had been suspended due to the pandemic, but classes for seniors are continuing at Silver Harbour Center in North Vancouver (Mondays: 1:00-2:00 p.m.)

You will feel as if you are in the South Seas as you join them, or sit back, relax and enjoy their live streamed show. Mahalo nui loa.
