À propos

Join us to celebrate Park(ing) Day, an international event that transforms parking spaces into vibrant public spaces, promoting community interaction and creative urban design through temporary installations. Making parking spots into parks! Fête Jockey’s miniature movie theatre (complete with concession) will pop up on the streets showcasing local short film Some Lots by Lorne Bailey, curated by Lawrence Bird.

Stop in for popcorn and a midday pick-me-up.

About The Film Some Lots by Lorne Bailey:

Parking lots are often considered the bane of Winnipeg’s downtown. They’ve certainly been connected to unsustainable practices - like driving everywhere by car instead of walking, bicycling, or taking a bus. But are they really so bad?

This short film takes a wry look at three parking lots in the downtown, and tries its darnedest to accentuate their aesthetically pleasing side. But then it digs into the storied past of the three sites -  including the former Grace Church, Empire Hotel, and the McIntyre Block on Main Street - overlaying images of the present with archival photos of the past. It can’t help but conclude: yeah, they’re really not great urban features, especially when you compare them to what was there before. Lorne Bailey offers a deadpan commentary on what has been lost in our rush to serve the automobile.

You too can make your own Park(ing) Day pop up park! Checkout the PARK(ing) Day website for more details.
