À propos

Do you love birds? Test you birding skills at the Norfolk Arts Centre! See how many species from our carved bird collection you can identify!

We will also be joined by staff from Bird Studies Canada. Andrea, Ian and Kyle will be sharing some of the incredible work they are doing to protect and preserve local bird populations.

1 pm – Piping Plover Conservation

Andrea Gress, the Ontario Piping Plover Coordinator for Bird Studies Canada, will be talking about the challenges the piping plover faces. She will also discuss the conservation efforts that help to preserve these birds.

2 pm – Forest Birds at Risk

Ian Fife is the Forest Birds at Risk Program Coordinator for Bird Studies Canada. Ian will be discussing four forest birds at risk in southern Ontario: Acadian Flycatcher, Cerulean Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, and the Prothonotary Warbler. Ian will highlight the education and outreach work Bird Studies Canada does with private and public landowners in order to ensure the survival of these species.

3 pm – Long Point Bird Observatory

The Long Point Bird Observatory (LPBO) is now operated by Bird Studies Canada. The Observatory was established in 1960 and is the oldest, active bird observatory in the Americas. Kyle Cameron, Coordinator of the Long Point Bird Observatory, will speak about the Observatory and discuss the challenges and importance of monitoring migratory bird populations.
