À propos

Moderator Dr. Sue Brower will interview author Paula Butterfield, whose novel, La Luministe, is about Berthe Morisot, the first woman French Impressionist painter.

Anyone interested in art, including people who may have seen Morisot's work at the Vancouver Art Gallery's recent French Moderns show, will be interested in hearing about the woman that the other Impressionists regarded as the most avant-garde of them all. Her light-infused paintings (earning Morisot the name "la luministe") depict women who possessed an interior life.

Morisot's fascinating life included Paris, art, romance, war, and family secrets. Her struggle to combine her passion for painting with her desire for a family is one that still resonates today.

The conversation will include questions from attendees and short readings from the novel. A book signing will follow.
