À propos

Gathered: A Collective of Cloth and Story

Braid Studios invites you to experience Gathered: A Collective of Cloth and Story, an immersive textile exhibition where fabric becomes a vessel for memory, transformation, and connection. Running from September 19 to December 5, 2025, this exhibition brings together five artists who work with cloth in deeply imaginative ways, transforming The Braid Loft into a sensory environment filled with texture, scent, and sound.

Visitors can expect installations that are more than visual—they are interactive spaces that invite you to pause, breathe, and reflect on our relationships with ourselves and others. Sculptural silk forms, nostalgic paintings of vintage textiles, and playful hand-stitched works are woven together with projection, ambient audio, and the soft fragrance of natural materials. Step into a tented gathering space draped with cloth, wander past garments visited by delicate tissue butterflies, and discover how sound, light, and scent can shift the way we experience art.

The exhibition is free and open to all. Guests are encouraged to join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, September 19 from 6:30–9:00 PM at The Braid Loft in New Westminster, where they can meet the artists and celebrate this community-driven event. It will also be available for viewing during the New Westminster Cultural Crawl on October 4 & 5 11:00am-5:00pm.

Presented by Braid Studios, a 100% Indigenous-owned and artist-run studio, Gathered highlights the power of collaboration and the importance of storytelling through material. Whether you are an art lover, textile enthusiast, or simply curious, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to engage with cloth in ways that are tactile, immersive, and unforgettable.

Organisateur

Braid Studios

Braid Studios is an award-winning, 100% Indigenous-owned art studio and gallery with over 40 artists working across three locations in Metro Vancouver. Founded by artist Susan Wild-Greig (Susan L. Greig), Braid Studios provides professional working space, mentorship, and exhibition opportunities that help both emerging and established artists thrive.

Our vision is to serve as an incubator for creativity, where artists of all disciplines can grow their practice, connect with community, and share their work with the public. In addition to studio rentals, we provide group and individual mentorship, an online artist community, and professional development resources.

Braid Studios is also committed to accessibility and public engagement. We host monthly Open Studios on the first Saturday of each month, inviting the community to meet artists, see works in progress, and experience the vibrancy of our creative spaces. Throughout the year, we present exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events that foster dialogue between artists and audiences.

By weaving mentorship, community, and opportunity together, we support artists in building sustainable careers and contribute to the cultural fabric of the region.
