À propos

How has COVID-19 impacted your life? Nearly 300 Mission residents have contributed to the historical record of the pandemic through the Archives’ Life at Two Metres Postcard Project. Ranging from age 6 to 70+, participants have written messages, drawn pictures, and created collages, all expressing their experience of the past year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many aspects of our lives, revolutionizing the ways we work, communicate, and understand the world around us. For 6-year-old Texas, pandemic restrictions have resulted in a new way of interacting with their great-grandparents. “We don’t go in their house,” Texas writes, alongside a colourful illustration, “but they throw ice cream bars out their window to us!”

“It was like the whole world was on pause,” 14-year-old Maya writes, reflecting on the early days of the pandemic.

“We had to learn how to isolate,” says 46-year-old Carolyn, “not see loved ones. For their safety, not hug, wear masks, keep 2 feet [metres] apart and sanitize, sanitize, sanitize.”

During Culture Days, browse the postcard collection and gain insight into the pandemic experiences of Mission residents during the past year.

Mission Community Archives

The Archives serves local residents and the global community by acquiring, preserving, and making accessible for public use records of archival value to the City of Mission and the Fraser Valley Regional District. Archivist Val Billesberger believes that key to carrying out the archives' mandate is to engage the public by showcasing Mission’s storied past online. Throughout COVID-19, the Archives have been instrumental in documenting the pandemic's impact on the community.
