derdie transforms ordinary spaces and objects into playful, interactive experiences that invite people to connect with art, with one another, and with their own sense of curiosity and joy. Our work lives at the intersection of creativity, community, and accessibility. We believe art should be joyful, participatory, and open to everyone. At its core, derdie is about relationships between people, places, and ideas. We see collaboration not just as a method but as a value. Our installations embrace unpredictability, welcoming curiosity and transformation. We’re especially interested in how a play can be a radical act that challenges expectations and creates space for connection and possibility. Our Cool Gardens project, berdie, invites participants to toss rings towards a course of colourful flamingo sculptures, aiming to hook them around the birds’ curved necks. Both kitschy and playful, berdie, transforms the classic lawn ornament into a joyful, low-stakes game that encourages shared delight.

Notre travail se situe à l'intersection de la créativité, dela communauté et del'accessibilité. Nous pensons que l'art doit être joyeux, participatif et ouvert à tous. Au cœur de la démarche de derdie se trouvent les relations entre les personnes, les lieux et lesidées. Nous considérons la collaboration non seulement comme une méthode, mais aussicomme une valeur. Nos installations sont inattendues et invitent à la curiosité et à latransformation. Nous nous intéressons particulièrement à la façon dont le jeu peut être un acteradical qui remet en question les attentes et crée un espace de connexion et de possibilité. Notre projet Cool Gardens,berdie, invite les participants à lancer des anneaux en direction d'unparcours coloré de sculptures de flamants roses, dans le but de les accrocher au cou recourbédes oiseaux. À la fois kitsch et ludique, berdietransforme l'ornement de pelouse classique enun jeu joyeux et sans pression qui encourage le plaisir partagé.

derdie is the collaborative art playground of Treaty 6 artists Andie Palynchuk and Derek Sandbeck. Blurring the lines between art, play, and public engagement, they transform everyday objects and spaces into interactive experiences using sculpture, ceramics, mechanics, and murals. Their work invites people of all ages to participate, connect, and see the world differently.

Known for their joyful, inclusive approach, derdie has been featured in exhibitions and festivals across the prairies. Highlights include a residency and exhibition at Kenderdine Art Gallery, the interactive game TURBO and installation MEET Cute at Remai Modern’s WEGO and LUGO events, and their window show play date at AKA/PAVED Arts. In 2024, they brought a rotating basketball sculpture to life at the YXE Urban Games. As Art City’s 2024 Guest Artists, they co-created a miniature golf course with children and families—demonstrating how art-making can build relationships, empower voices, and celebrate community through creative collaboration.
