À propos

Tafelmusik's Musik in Motion video series features artists interpreting music that is an essential part of Tafelmusik's repertoire. In this "Vivaldi music video", we collaborate with choreographer Hanna Kiel, recent graduates from The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, and Puncture Design to explore the first movement of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for bassoon in D Minor (Dominic Teresi, bassoon soloist) from Tafelmusik's 2019 recording, Vivaldi con amore. Kiel’s choreography is drawn from the feelings that surfaced from listening to the music. She approached the music as a landscape, using the choreography to weave in various sceneries. The work is a fountain of vibrance, of life.

We are thrilled to premiere this latest video as part of Culture Days 2021. Previous Musik in Motion videos include painter Darby Milbrath exploring exploring a Vivaldi violin concerto, cellist Keiran Campbell performing Bach, and visual artist Alex McLeod interpreting Mozart's Requiem through 3D digital sculpture.

This video will premiere on Friday September 24 at 7pm EDT, and will be available to watch throughout Culture Days, and on YouTube in perpetuity.

Organisateur

Tafelmusik

Led by Music Director Elisa Citterio and Executive Director Carol Kehoe, Tafelmusik is an orchestra, choir, and experience that celebrates beauty through music of the past.

Founded over 40 years ago on the pillars of passion, learning, and artistic excellence, Tafelmusik continues to bring new energy to baroque music and beyond. Historically informed performances of 17th- to 19th-century instrumental and choral music (led by Chamber Choir director Ivars Taurins) share the stage with vibrant, insightful multimedia programs, and bold new music written just for the group. Each piece is played on period instruments, underscored and illuminated by scholarship.

Through dynamic performances, international touring, award-winning recordings, and comprehensive education programs, Tafelmusik invites audiences to engage with beauty and experience the breadth of emotion music can inspire.

This video and Culture Days event was created in collaboration with Hanna Kiel and the Toronto School of Dance Theatre.

Dora Mavor Moore Award winner Hanna Kiel is originally from Seoul, South Korea. She spent many years in Vancouver pursuing choreography and presenting work. Since moving to Toronto in 2008, Kiel has continued working as an independent dance artist, choreographing for numerous companies and schools. She is one of the founders of The Garage, a dance development and exchange collective group, and the Artistic Director of Human Body Expression.

The School of Toronto Dance Theatre is one of Canada’s leading dance training centres and offers training programs for professional and recreational dancers of all ages. The School is passionately committed to training creative people to perform, choreograph, and teach, and to assume leadership roles that will change the face of Contemporary dance in Canada and around the world.
