Supported by VOID Gallery, Cate Francis will be hosting "Cryptid Crossing", a participatory wheat paste mural within the 33rd St BID during Nuit Blanche Saskatoon on September 25, 2021 from 7pm-12am. Cate will draw and silkscreen body parts of Canadian Wildlife for the public to assemble their favourite animal, or create a new hybrid of their own imagination. Cate will create a central focal piece for the centre of the mural & assist in teaching people how to apply the paper images using wheat paste.

Rumours of strange hybrid creatures have been reported near 33rd street. The Paper Wildlife Conservancy is on the scene to investigate these rumours. Nuit Blanche participants will have the opportunity to add to this mural of unnatural history and help us uncover the true identity of the mysterious creatures behind these reports.

Cate Francis is a printmaker and illustrator from Saskatoon Saskatchewan, she obtained a BFA from the University of Saskatchewan in 2008. In 2012 she received a SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier grant to pursue an MFA at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design which she completed in the spring of 2014.

VOID Gallery is a non-profit screen print and risograph studio located in Saskatoon, Canada/Treaty 6.

Nuit Blanche Saskatoon & VOID Gallery

Nuit Blanche Saskatoon is a free, night-time arts festival that showcases and celebrates art and culture. This year the festival will take place on September 25, 2021 from 7pm-12am in the Broadway, Downtown, Riversdale and 33rd Street districts. Overtaking multiple venues and city streets throughout Saskatoon's core neighbourhoods, Nuit Blanche Saskatoon features projections, sculptural installations, performance, music, theatre, and other forms of contemporary art that wow festival-goers late into the evening. The festival gives attendees of all ages a chance to enjoy and engage with Saskatoon’s thriving arts scene. It offers the unique experience of exploring Saskatoon's public spaces late into the night in a safe and fun environment.
