À propos
In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we invite you to join us for a special ceremony with Sisters of the Drum between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on September 30.
You are invited to join in with the drumming circle, learn Anishinaabe songs, take a healing medicine walk, and participate in the traditional painting and decorating of Indigenous drums and shakers.
This ceremony is free to attend and will be held outdoors at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre located at 322 Amherst Drive, Amherstview.
The Amherstview Farmers Market will be in full swing during this special ceremony. Guests are encouraged to visit the market area and support local!
Sisters of the Drum:
The ancestral rhythm of the hand drum echoes the heartbeat of Mother Earth. This group of women from mixed ancestry have become known as the ‘Sisters of the Drum’ and have actively been sharing their teachings and music over a wide area for the past 20 years.
The Sisters of the Drum have produced three CDs of hand-drum music and stories:
Sisters of the Water
Sisters of the Earth
Sisters of the Fire
and are currently preparing Sisters of the Wind, featuring traditional Native music as well as original pieces. Their presentation always includes cultural teachings and fun facts and stories, sometimes with puppets, about, "our connection to the Earth, the animals and birds, the wind, water, earth and air".
