À propos

This is your invitation to go fishing and let your creative side out at the same time! Fishing is a BIG part of Scugog culture, so grab a pole (that we will provide) and cast your line into our onsite mini Lake Scugog. Participants have the chance to catch 'fish' that would typically be found in our beautiful lake such as perch, sunfish, and largemouth bass.

The derby will go until we're out of 'fish'!

How It Works: The fish are made of wood. Participants will use a fishing pole with a magnet on the end and cast into a pool of water. Washers painted with different colors indicating fish size will be upside down in the water adding a bit of mystery. Once a fish has been 'caught' participants will get to paint it and take it home as a trophy.

Jon Colwell, local artist and Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, carved and provided the wooden fish for this activity.

This event is a part of the Ontario Culture Days Regional Hub Program.

Scugog Arts

Scugog Arts is a creative hub: awakening, inspiring, and connecting you to all the arts. We are an arts space on Queen Street in Port Perry with Resident Artists, monthly exhibitions, and workshops for artists and visitors. Scugog Arts also organizes and hosts multi-arts cultural events, literary programs, festivals, and tours.

Scugog Arts connects the community with public art displays such as our Art You Can Sit On, a memorial to Bill Lishman, ceiling tiles for the hospital, and live theatre and music in the back lot.

Scugog Arts is funded by individual donors, Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, Vos’ Independent Grocery, Old Flame Brewery, Canadian Tire Port Perry, Central Counties Tourism, and the Canada Summer Jobs program of the Government of Canada. Fundraising efforts always focus on unique ways and various arts disciplines with engaging entertainment for supporters.
