À propos

Sovereign House is a Historical home located in picturesque Bronte, on the shores of Lake Ontario. Sovereign House was built starting in 1825 as a one storey log cabin by Charles Sovereign, one of the founding pioneers of Bronte. Charles was a farmer, school teacher, school trustee, Justice of the Peace and Secretary of the Bronte Harbour Company. By 1845, the house was the two storey house you see today. In 1988 the Bronte Historical Society, along with the town moved the house to 7 West River Street, and took over management of it. At this point the one storey addition was built with the intent to showcase rotating art shows during our season. The grounds are historically correct to the 1910-1915 period when Mazo de la Roche, who became a famous Canadian romance novelist lived here with her family (1910-1915).

Sovereign House is open end of May until the end of October. We are open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 1-4 pm. Come visit and enjoy a self-guided tour and discover Bronte’s interesting history. See you then!

Organisateur

Bronte Historical Society

The Bronte Historical Society has the mandate to keep Sovereign House open from late May until late October. We organize the art shows for the season, as well as organize special events, guest speakers and manage any items that are donated. All donated items must have a Bronte connection.

During our Culture Days Event, we will have two artists showing their art, Carol Sanders and Cathy Nairn.
