Guild Festival Theatre
The Guild Festival Theatre’s mission is to present professional theatre to the artistically underserved communities of Scarborough and the eastern GTA. As the only professional theatre company based in Scarborough, GFT seeks to remove barriers and promote diversity in all aspects of the performing arts.
Taking our inspiration from the classical columns of our venue, the Guild Festival Theatre has presented classic playwrights such as Shakespeare, Moliere and Chekov, whose universality and timelessness continue to speak to modern audiences. GFT is also committed to expanding the definition of classics by programming Canadian classics and Canadian takes on world classics. We are also dedicated to exploring less-produced plays of the past, especially those by female and BIPOC playwrights, as well as contemporary plays that explore historical time periods as a lens to examine the world of today.
Our commitment to making great theatre accessible has anchored us in Guild Park & Gardens, a public park in eastern Scarborough. In 2020 we took the theatre to the streets, bringing performances to lawns and driveways throughout the Guildwood neighbourhood.
