À propos

The sixth annual Africa With The Masters Festival is a 3-day series of cultural activities and performances. It features presentations and culturally relevant arts engagements by Elders, knowledge keepers and professional African artists living in Canada.

The festival honors the “Spirit of the Village”, promotes friendship and respect, and welcomes people of all backgrounds through music, dance, traditional kids' games and storytelling, performed and facilitated by African Elders, knowledge keepers, and professional African artists.

The theme for the 2022 AWM Festival is “Blessing”. In African traditions, Blessing is a key component of a person’s wellbeing. One must be blessed regularly to enjoy a good life.

Blessing is a state of the soul. It is a feeling that the soul is home, we are in alignment, and all is well. Many African cultures have their own unique ways to bestow blessings, but it is widely accepted that “To dance together is to bless each other.”

Welcome to our Village!

African Friendship Society

WE RESTORE DIGNITY.

At African Friendship Society we believe that all Canadians deserve to experience the real

story of Africa and its people without prejudice or discrimination. We bring communities

together through the celebration of joy, friendship and African arts and cultures.

Our mandate is to educate while entertaining, promote mental and emotional well-being for

all, social inclusion and community engagement through African arts. We help build self-esteem and empowerment within the Black/African community through positive cultural identification.

The BC based African Friendship Society was formed by Cameroonian dance artist Jacky Essombe to facilitate the growth of African Arts outreach, provide cultural education in the larger community and cultivate friendships with all cultures, while building healthy and collaborative relationships with the BC Black and African communities.

We EDUCATE, EMPOWER and ENTERTAIN.
