À propos

Japanese Calligraphy (shodo) showcases a wide range of artistic characters derived from Chinese characters (kanji) called "Kana" (Japanese Writing system). The three different types of brush strokes are the following: square style (kaisho), semi-cursive (gyosho) and cursive (sosho). Shodo is distinctive, aesthetic and instrinsic to the Japanese culture because of its artistic representation of the country's proud history. Test your skills with a Master Japanese Calligrapher on site! You get to take home your art piece as well!

Hi! My master Japanese Calligrapher name is “Shien” – a continuous flow of the shade purple.

I am a local Japanese Calligrapher (shodo) from Vancouver, BC, Canada, who has been affiliated with this Japanese art since childhood. I was born and raised in Japan where I received formal artistic practices since before I could pick up a pencil.

I have over 25 years of teaching experience in Vancouver, and have been studying this art since childhood in Japan.

I hope to connect with the public at an artistic level by showcasing my passion, dedication and creativity that lies behind every brush stroke in Japanese calligraphy.

I have crafted the following:
