À propos

The visitor will be presented with a runway type show of Latvian folk costumes. These centuries old costumes can be reproduced today - you will see the textile techniques involved demonstrated by local artisans in national costumes.

You will have the opportunity to try your hand at knitting in the round and off-loom weaving, either in the form of card weaving or pick- up technique.

Guided tours of the Latvian Heritage Collection will be available.

Imagine yourself to be a Latvian maiden? You will have a chance to try a beaded crown worn by unmarried Latvian women.

Hand knitted Latvian mittens will be available for purchase.

*The runway type Latvian Folk Costume fashion show will take place at 11.00 a.m and 2.00 p.m*

Organisateur

Latvian Artisans Association of Canada

The Latvian Artisans Association of Canada has been active in Ontario since 1953. Its goal is not only to preserve folk art and national costumes brought to Canada by Latvian refugees fleeing Russian occupation of their country during the Second World War, but also to ensure future generations of Latvian-Canadians have the ability to practise these skills and techniques handed down from generation to generation. In Toronto this continues to be achieved by twice- monthly meetings where all Latvian textile techniques are taught.
