The Cambridge Centre for the Arts commissioned Cambridge artist, Michele Jones, to paint a vertical window mural with 12 striking portraits of great Canadian artists and performers. As visitors approach the entrance to the Arts Centre, they are able to experience a vibrant depiction of Canadians who through their talents have made a significant impact nationally and internationally.
The 12 artists have influenced the development of the Canadian arts scene in profound ways and include painter Tom Thomson, dancer Karen Kain, pianist Oscar Peterson, writer Margaret Atwood and artist Kenojuak Ashevak. These were chosen to represent a range of creative expression and diversity from across all regions of Canada.

The Cambridge Centre for the Arts (CCA) opened in May 2001 in the former Public Utilities Commission building. In 1921, this building was the first all steel structure to be built in Ontario. Sir Adam Beck, the father of Ontario Hydro, officially opened the building in 1922.
It was the Ontario Hydro building for more than 60 years before they relocated. The building sat vacant until 1990 when the City of Cambridge renovated the front half for a seniors' centre, located at the corner of Dickson and Wellington streets, then the CCA in 2001.
