Old Souls / New Dreams is a St Vladimir Institute (SVI) public arts initiative in collaboration with Guelph, Ontario visual artist, Taras Lachowsky. SVI invited Taras to animate our neighbourhood by displaying his vibrant artwork inspired by Vytynanky (traditional Ukrainian paper cut-outs) on our large windows facing Spadina Avenue for every passerby to enjoy.

Many organizations throughout the world closed their doors during the pandemic and cancelled cultural and arts initiatives. SVI was also forced to stop offering in-person cultural programming as the surrounding streetscape went quiet.

Now that the fall season is here and classes are in-person, our doors are opening up again with students moving into our residence. Even though the pandemic isn't over, we wanted to start a new arts initiative to help brighten the city in a safe and accessible way – and what better way than using our building’s front windows to display eye-catching artwork to the public.

Stop by and enjoy the vibrant artwork in front of our building at 620 Spadina Avenue in Toronto (Near Spadina Ave. and Harbord St.)
