During the time period 1860 to 1875, a wooden blacksmith shop opened up on this lot to service the needs of the residents of Cannington, and those who travelled by horse to the rapidly growing village.

Guided tours happen all day that take you through a day as a blacksmith and wheelwright.

You will explore smithy tools, their techniques and the transportation vehicles of the day.

Cannington & Area Historical Society

The Cannington Historical Society was established in 1976.

We are 50 years strong in our community.

The Museum is located at 200 Elliot Street, in the north east corner of MacLeod Park. It was established in 1978 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the

Village of Cannington.

The Museum is open Victoria Day to Labour Day

Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Blacksmith and Carriage Shop (circa 1890) is at

21 Laidlaw Street South.

With forge, horse-drawn buggy,

cutter, cart, and smiting tools, the Shop is a working museum as well as the Society's office and resource centre.
