In June 2021, award-winning Cree author David A. Robertson curated a CBC Books list, which has since circulated widely across Turtle Island as a resource, syllabus, and, most importantly, a call to action. In recognition of National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on Sep 30, David A. Robertson joins us virtually to provide context for the list and his thoughts on our continued journey forward.

David A. Robertson was the 2021 recipient of the Writers’ Union of Canada Freedom to Read Award. He is the author of numerous books for young readers including "When We Were Alone" and "On the Trapline," both winners of the Governor General’s Literary Award, "The Barren Grounds," a finalist for the 2020 Governor General’s Literary Award, and "Black Water: Family, Legacy, and Blood Memory," winner of the Alexander Kennedy Isbister Award for Non-Fiction. David is the writer and host of the podcast "Kíwew," winner of the 2021 RTDNA Prairie Region Award for Best Podcast. He is a member of Norway House Cree Nation and currently lives in Winnipeg.

There are seven library branches citywide: six full-service branches (Aldershot, Alton, Brant Hills, Central, New Appleby, Tansley Woods) and a small lending collection in the rural hamlet of Kilbride. Library service began in Burlington in January 1872.

Central branch is the largest location and houses historical and special collections, a community makerspace, and a computer lab.
