Culture and Cardio?! Yes!! BollyX is a Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines exhilarating choreography and intensive workouts with upbeat music from around the world. At the very core of a BollyX class is the inspiration it draws from the music and dance of Bollywood, the central film industry of India.
BollyX choreography includes a wide range of authentic South Asian dance styles, including Bollywood, Bhangra, and Western Folk styles.
- Bhangra originates from the Northern region of India, specifically Punjab, and it is a traditional folk dance that was originally used to celebrate the harvest.
- Western Folk Styles originate from the Western and Northwestern regions of India, and the movements reflect the daily life of local villagers.
- Bollywood originates from the City of Mumbai, and it is described as a fusion of Indian classical, folk, and pop styles along with influences of styles from all around the world.
The BollyX curriculum has been created by AFAA-certified instructors and world-class choreographers to ensure a safe, approachable, engaging and highly effective dance workout for all. The 55-minute cardio class alternates between higher- and lower-intensity dance sequences. Participants are encouraged to listen to their bodies and participate at their own intensity level.
No experience necessary! Wear sneakers and comfortable clothes.
This incredibly fun class is offered free of charge for Culture Days. Donations are gratefully accepted (Pay-What-You-May).
