À propos

Words West of the 5th is a one(+) day festival to celebrate the art, the craft and the work of writing, held in Rimbey AB on Saturday, Sept. 28th, 2019.

Whether writing poetry, young adult prose, a romance novel, or a non-fiction textbook, an author’s path to his or her finished work is rarely a straight one. From the moment of inspiration to the infatuation of exploring an idea to the editorial “cutting floor” - even the anxiety of reading reviews post-production - the writers invited to this event will read from their own works and offer insights on how to successfully navigate one’s writing dream through the choppy seas of reality! Check out these sessions as the authors discuss the Art, the Craft, and the Work of writing.

Join us at any or all of our events: Saturday's events include a Poetry Café at the Empress Theatre Cafe (12:30) and two Writers in Sessions at the Beatty Heritage House (one for fiction and one for non-fiction authors, 2:00). Then to wind up the day’s events, come out to a Homegrown Open Mic free-for-all at the local fun and funky Hawk Tail Brewery (7:30).

Featured authors include Kate Boorman, Jocelyn Brown, Joan Crate, Fran Kimmel, Judy Larmour, Sid Marty, Myrna Pearman, Patrick Rurka, Linda Siebanga, & Bruce Strand.

All Saturday events are free and open to all.
