À propos

Toronto in Last Night explores the role the city of Toronto plays in perhaps the most quintessential Toronto film ever, 1998’s Last Night.

Written, directed by and starring Don McKellar (who was also responsible for the quintessential Toronto sitcom, Twitch City), Last Night depicts the last six hours on Earth, with a variety of characters navigating the final moments of an unspecified apocalypse.

Join artist Dave Dyment and filmmaker Don McKellar on October 20th at 7pm for a free screening of Last Night, followed by a discussion about the film and the way that Toronto has been portrayed in cinema.

Don McKellar won the Prix de la Jeunesse at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival for Last Night (his directorial debut) and in 2016 was made a Member of the Order of Canada "for his contributions to Canadian culture as an actor, writer and director”. His screenplays include Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould, The Red Violin, and Blindness. He has also appeared in Atom Egoyan’s Exotica and David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ.

Dave Dyment has created several works investigating cinematic representation. Next year, Ontario Culture Days will debut his film Dead Ringer, which uses Toronto’s Casa Loma to explore cinema in which Toronto is the location but not the setting.
