À propos

During Ontario Culture Days Jody Pilon will be introducing her work in progress ‘The Hanky Project’. Visitors will learn about the collective sacrifices of les filles du roi, also known as the king’s daughters, and gain an understanding of these little known figures in Canadian History.

Join Jody as she stitches the 768 names of les filles du roi onto vintage handkerchiefs. Hand stitching by nature is laborious and forces us to slow down. In this slowness, we can consider our own thoughts and feelings and how we exchange with others and operate in the world. Visitor participation in stitching is welcome.

Jody Pilon

Jody Pilon is a mixed media & textile artist. Her current project employs historic ‘womens work’ to acknowledge the king’s daughters. Simple work with cloth and thread with love and intention in every stitch. A humble response to great courage and sacrifice. Four textile panels composed of traditional hand woven Quebec style catalognes and vintage handkerchiefs will pay homage to les filles du roi.

The very nature of textile entices the viewer to want to reach out and touch the work. In the same way Pilon hopes that the symbolism, historical significance and the scale of the work touches the viewer in a personal way. Working together to understand the complex nature of our collective history in this country, we call Canada.
