Ashley Manitowabi, from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, is a Land-Based Arts Facilitator and Artistic Director at Debajehmujig Storytellers, who creates interactive land-based art installations deeply rooted in Indigenous values and teachings.

Ashley will participate in the Ontario Culture Days festival through a featured presentation

in Debajehmujig’s 6 Foot Festival. This festival invites artists to explore their practice within

a defined 6x6x6-foot piece of land, fostering intimate, site-responsive installations. In his

role as Artistic Director, Ashley will help guide the overall artistic vision of the festival while

also contributing his own creative work.

Ashley’s individual contribution will be a land-based installation created within one of the

festival’s designated 6x6x6 spaces. Drawing on Indigenous teachings and utilizing natural

materials, his installation will offer an immersive and tactile experience that connects

audiences to the land, its story, and its community. In addition to the installation, Ashley

will engage the public through interactive programming, deepening cultural awareness and

participation.

The installation will be located inside the Debajehmujig Creation Centre from September 24th to October 3rd.

The Ontario Culture Days Festival is an annual celebration of arts, culture and heritage taking place each fall across the province.
