À propos
If you are interested in creative writing, illustration, roleplay, graphic novels, or other such endeavours, this Character Design workshop will help you create your own character for the narrative purpose of your choosing.
Character Design can be a highly rewarding, cathartic, and collaborative experience. The goal of this workshop is to inspire creativity, foster new ideas, and introduce some methods of developing a character from scratch. Through prompts and collaborative exercises, you will express the first iteration of your character in a written or visual format depending on your preference. The main focus of this workshop is the creative process. It is ideal for those looking for a creative community to collaborate with, those at the beginning of their creative journey, those experiencing a creative block, or those with no prior knowledge or experience who may be interested in
learning about Character Design.
All ages and identities are welcome!

Bethany Pardoe
This workshop is hosted by VOAF in partnership with BC Culture Days.
Bethany Pardoe grew up in Nelson, BC and has been creating art for as long as she
can remember. In 2021, she moved to Vancouver, BC to attend Emily Carr University of Art
and Design where she is currently majoring in illustration. She has exhibited work in
numerous exhibitions and events including 4 x 4 on 5th, numerous exhibitions at Emily Carr
University of Art and Design, two of Oxygen Art Centre’s Juried Youth exhibitions, and
various Kootenay based Art Walks and community events. Pardoe has completed four solo
mural projects and three collaborative murals for the NDYC. She has worked and volunteered
for art organisations such as the Nelson and District Arts Council, Oxygen Art Centre, and
North Van Arts. Her goals for the future include writing and illustrating her own stories,
developing her illustration skills, and participating in as many community art opportunities as
she can.
