The Cambridge Community Players (formerly the Galt Little Theatre) was originally started by a principal of the Galt Collegiate Institute (GCI), Dr. T.H. Wholton. He, with some of his staff and students created a group called Galt Collegiate Players. From this theatre loving group of people came the Galt Little Theatre Company. They met at the YMCA in August 1933. The Galt Little Theatre put their first shows on at Tassie Hall. Due to their growing success, the company performed at other venues such as the Galt Public Library and in the Delta Playhouse. Not having a permanent home, they rehearsed, stored their sets, costumes and props in a variety of places. They used the old Post Office, Kirkham’s Appliance store, the old Gore Building on Main St., the Savage Shoe building in Preston and the Preston Hydro building, to name a few. In 1982 the City of Cambridge purchased and renovated Water St. Baptist Church and created the Cambridge Arts Theatre. The Galt Little Theatre was given a permanent residence there and that is where we reside to this day!
