The Unglüd is an improvisational group with ear bending twists. With throat singing/ beat boxing (Nathan Rogers), overtone singing/ vocal improv (Kiva Simova), didgeridoo (Mike Thompson), soprano sax/ button accordion/ electronics (Bill Spornitz), these accomplished musicians defy any existing descriptions of their genre. With ‘sketches’ rather than written compositions, each performance is a once only experience. They connect telepathically, bringing the idiosyncrasies of their skills and imaginations into ecstatic alignment. At times jarring, soothing, playful and humorous, their individual outrageously unique characters shine through always. Includes a riveting light saber routine by Nathan.

For this Nuit Blanche event, social distancing must be adhered to. Ground markings will indicate spacing. Masks are encouraged for all. Contact tracing information is taken on a voluntary basis.

Audience participation may take place in the following ways:

-fantasy creature costumes (with covid style coverings)

-easel/ paint provided for signed up audience members to create their visual interpretation of one piece of music each

-signs will be held up for the audience to accompany us with various types of noises

I, Kiva Simova, am the founder (2019) of the group- The Unglüd. We provide entertaining live performances of improvised music, using unusual instrumentation and unique vocal techniques, such as throat singing and overtone singing. Instruments include didgeridoo, sax, button accordion, electronics, and rubber chicken. We encourage audience participation in various ways to provide an experience like no other. Our vision is to spread awareness of special vocals, with roots in Central Asia, and the joy of collaborating in musical styles not commonly associated with these sounds.
