À propos
Usually the last full weekend of September, Deep Roots brings an awesome blend of up-and-coming, alongside tried-and-true, performers to our festival stages, and fun free participatory events, like sing-alongs, dancing and drumming, happen throughout the weekend. This year, because of COVID-19, festival organizers had to shift gears.
Program Director Dave Carmichael says, “We'll be launching a Deep Roots retrospective online on Sept. 26 on our YouTube channel.” The Deep Roots COVID Concerts were presented on the internet bi-weekly from May 30 to September 19 (the Saturday before the festival was to take place). On ‘festival weekend’ this year an online show will feature festival memories, and the presentation of the 17th annual Valley Arts Award. Audience members will also be invited to view any or all of the COVID Concerts series as well - nine hours of programming!
The COVID Concerts included two ongoing segments. The first segment, called “Here I Am” invited folks to email a video clip to say their name, where they were, and a quick hello. The second segment, “The Sing-Along”, invited folks to email a video clip of themselves (and their COVID-19 companions) singing a selected song for each concert. The Deep Roots Music Cooperative is committed to creating opportunities for Annapolis Valley artists and beyond – and to paying them! The concerts offer a PayPal link so that audience members may contribute too.
You can catch the shows on the Deep Roots Music Videos YouTube channel.
