Richmond Gem and Mineral Society – Culture Days 2025 Activities
For Culture Days 2025, the Richmond Gem and Mineral Society (RGMS) is excited to open its doors and invite the community to discover the fascinating world of rocks, gems, and minerals through a series of hands-on and interactive activities. Whether you're a curious beginner, a budding geologist, or a seasoned rockhound, there's something for everyone at RGMS!
Soapstone Carving in the Lapidary Workshop
Try your hand at transforming a soft stone into a small sculpture. With guidance from experienced members in our fully equipped lapidary workshop, participants will learn the basics of shaping and smoothing stone using real tools and techniques. It’s a fun, tactile way to experience the creative side of geology. Limited spaces available, 16yrs or older. Register in the time slots at the top left of page.
Rock Identification Game
Think you can tell the difference between a jasper and a quartz? Test your knowledge with our Rock ID Game! Great for kids and adults alike, this educational game helps participants recognize and learn about common rocks and minerals.
Boutique Table – Members' Showcase
At our Boutique Table, you’ll find a display of handcrafted works made by RGMS members. These include polished stones, wire-wrapped jewelry, carved items, and more. It’s a chance to see what’s possible when passion meets skill, and to talk with the artists about their creative processes.
Learn About the Rock Club
Culture Days is the perfect time to learn about what we do at the Richmond Gem and Mineral Society. Our club offers access to a fully equipped lapidary workshop, a silversmithing room, and a welcoming community of enthusiasts. We host monthly meetings, socials, and rockhounding trips throughout the year where members can explore and collect specimens from local sites. RGMS is a place to share knowledge, develop skills, and foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
Whether you’re interested in learning how to cut and polish stones, make silver jewelry, or identify minerals in the field, RGMS offers a unique opportunity to connect with the Earth—and with a community that shares your interests.
Come visit us during Culture Days 2025 and experience the magic of rocks and minerals for yourself!
