À propos

Woodland art is unmistakably recognizable through the bright colours, bold lines, heavy black outlines of forms, and X-ray views of people, animals, and spirits. The works often carry powerful messages, symbolism, and spirituality as they translate oral traditions into visual stories.

Presented by local Indigenous artist Lucia O'Connor Laford, this video will explore Woodland artworks and their stories and history.

The Art Gallery of Algoma is a part of the Ontario Culture Days Regional Hub Program.

Art Gallery of Algoma

The AGA was founded as a non-profit public art gallery and incorporated on July 7, 1975. Established by a group of dedicated volunteers and art enthusiasts, the AGA honours its roots as a community organization with its mission of celebrating culture, educating visitors, and enriching lives through the visual arts. The AGA’s vision is to be a premier visual arts institution in northern Ontario, gaining national recognition and international partnerships. With the appointment of Director Jasmina Jovanovic in August 2011, the AGA looks forward to the next phase in its evolution: establishing and implementing exciting new initiatives, becoming more involved in the national contemporary art scene, and continuing to uphold its multifaceted mandate.
