À propos
Newcomers to Canada will showcase clothing that is traditional in their country of origin. The event will also give attendees the opportunity to sample homemade bread that is common in Eritrea and coffee/tea service enjoyed in Middle East countries. Clothing items made by newcomers will be on display and a sewing instructor will be on site providing demonstrations and answering questions. Cultural music will be featured and if you are lucky you might catch some traditional dancing as well.
Weather permitting the event will be outside at YWCA Wesley in the parking lot on the West side of the building. This outdoor event will encourage social distancing and usage of masks. Bread + coffee/tea will be served to all attendees with tables + chairs set up for those who want to sit and enjoy their bread & coffee or tea.
If weather does not allow us to host it outdoors the coffee/tea + bread will be given to attendees "to go" using a drive thru system in the parking lot of YWCA Wesley. The featured fashions, music, and sewing demonstrations will be recorded and made available later on that day.

Organisateur
YWCA Prince Albert - Settlement Services
YWCA Prince Albert is a charitable organization providing programs, shelter, services and support that address the needs of women and other individuals, families and communities to encourage human dignity and equality. The Settlement Services Department of YWCA Prince Albert works with newcomers that have had to flee their home countries due to violence, political unrest, or other life-threatening situations.
The trauma experienced in these situations is some of the most challenging, as refugees are leaving what they know for an unfamiliar country where they frequently do not speak the language. Settlement Services helps Government Assisted Refugees by welcoming them, teaching them about their new community, helping them find housing, making English language classes accessible, assisting with government documents, and providing employment support.
